Colin and Renée Alevras opened The Tasting Room Wine Bar & Café in November 1999 with a vision of great American wines paired with innovative cuisine created with the freshest local ingredients.

After years of success, they have now opened The Tasting Room Restaurant on Elizabeth Street, and the original location at 72 East First Street has new life as a café and wine bar.

The Tasting Room Restaurant at 264 Elizabeth Street opened during Summer 2006 and features a full bar serving high-end cocktails hand crafted with homemade mixers and fresh ingredients. Chef/Owner Colin Alevras has room to grow the repertory of dishes for the daily changing menu in the large new kitchen. His previous confinement to the cellar kitchen on First Street forced him to focus on being creative with little in terms of space or equipment.

The food is accompanied by a deep wine list featuring American and international wines made by small producers that have been carefully chosen by Colin and General Manager/Wine Director Carolyn DeFir.

The Tasting Room Wine Bar & Café was a tiny restaurant on First Street in the East Village of New York City. Recently re-opened, the Café and Wine Bar is open seven days from 3pm - 1am during the week and 10 am - 1 am on Saturdays & Sundays. A new coffee bar and a light menu of Tasting Room seasonal specialties and baked treats brought in from the Tasting Room Restaurant pastry kitchen is featured during the day. At night, wines by the glass or bottle accompany cheese, terrines, snacks and homemade breads. The menu changes daily and is posted with the wines on the blackboard wall. The Espresso was voted Best In New York by New York Magazine in February 2007.
Renée & Colin worked in NYC restaurant kitchens after graduating from Peter Kump's NY Cooking School (now known as ICE The Institute for Culinary Education), before they traveled to Paris to apprentice in the 3 Star Micheline rated Arpege. After returning to New York, Colin worked as a private chef to a UN ambassador and Renee managed a hotel restaurant while they began preparations to open their own restaurant. They have two children and live in the East Village.
The Tasting Room Restaurant is open Tuesday - Thursday & Sunday from 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm, Friday & Saturday from 5:30 pm - 11:00 pm. Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm with continual bar service until 5:30 pm.

The Tasting Room Wine Bar & Cafe is open Seven Days from 3:00 pm - 1:00 am during the week and 9:00 am - 1:00 am on Saturdays & Sundays.
